Why I Write

There are so many reasons I could give you for why I write. The obvious ones, I love it and it makes me happy, are very surface level. Yes, I do love writing and it does make me happy, but there is so much more that I have discovered along that way that drives me to continue writing.

In my life, I have always yearned to make a difference in the world, to leave my mark in some way. But for a long time, I felt I lacked the drive and the skill set to do so. As it turns out, writing is a great way to effect change.

It doesn’t have to be anything over the top, or obvious. You don’t need to write a research paper on why we need to change our habits or the world as we know it will end. It can be small.

What I do, is I write my experiences with anxiety and depression into my characters. These are very real, relatable experiences that by writing about them, I may help someone else out there who has gone through or experience the same thing.

It’s as simple as that. Helping one person means I’ve done what I wanted to accomplish.

As more people read my books, and I receive more positive feedback, it makes me realize that I am doing what I set out to do. I am making people happy, or making them feel seen, even if just for a little while.

Do I want to be doing that on a larger scale? Sure. But that will come with time. Right now, it makes me so happy to hear from what little readers I do have and how they love my characters as much as I do.

I like the idea that I am making change a little at a time. One small drop in the pond creates a ripple effect that can continue on and help make the world a better place. One book at a time.
