Fantasy Series to Escape Reality
The Red Queen series
This is a great four-book series, with a fifth book made up of short stories. I loved the world that Victoria Aveyard created. It is based on the future of our world, except everyone is divided by blood. The higher-ups of society have silver blood and different powers like fire, water, strength, controlling metal, etc. The people with red blood are considered peasants, and have no powers, or at least, they’re not supposed to. The main character, Mare Barrow, has red blood but a silver-like power.
I read the first book and then listened to the rest on audible. (Audible is Amazon’s audiobook app. It’s great if you don’t have time to read because you’re always on the go). I don’t know that I would have finished this series as quickly had I read them all, rather than listened to the audiobooks. In the later books, there was a lot of battling and war-related jargon that I did not fully understand. Had I not been listening while doing other things, my attention would not have held up for those parts. I would recommend this series for ages 15 and up (I will never be too old for young adult/fantasy novels). Just keep in mind, between the fast-paced fun parts, there is a bit of slow, confusing war talk.
