Book Review: The Cruel Prince Series

I knew nothing about this series when I first went into it. I saw a few people reading it online, and I judged a book by the cool cover, and bought the whole series. If you search the book series, it is highly rated. It has over four stars on Amazon and Goodreads. I would rate this series as 3.5 out of 5 stars. Here is my review of The Cruel Prince series written by Holly Black.

Bad News:

This did not start out great for me. The writing just seemed…off. The most notable thing for me in the prologue was a child saying “I vow it (pg. 6). Now, at first I was like maybe she’s a teenage, dramatic and all that. Another thing that bothered me about the character, Vivienne, or Vivi, is that her age is never mentioned. I had to figure it out for myself. I think she’s nine at the time she says “I vow it.” No nine year old I’ve ever known would say that.

This is not the only time that there are phrases used that don’t seem to suit the character, or just don’t really make complete sense. The second thing that truly made me laugh because it just seemed a little ridiculous was that the entirety of the first chapter was one sentence.
