5 Tips to Help with your Writing Imposter Syndrome

Imposter syndrome is something I’ve written about before, and it is something I will probably continue to write about because it never truly goes away. And that’s okay. What’s important is that we have a few devices in our arsenal to be prepared for when it creeps up on us.

  1. Remember, we’re all in this together. It’s not every writer for themselves. Sometimes I think it’s easy to feel alone as a writer because we spend so much time cooped up or in our own bubble writing. A lot of times, people in our real lives don’t understand exactly what it’s like to be a writer, or truly listen when we try to talk about things to do with our writing. So, it’s important to find someone you can talk to. People who are also writers, preferably, so you can remind yourself that you’re not alone. A good place to find people to connect with is on social media. Either through Tiktok, Instagram, or Bluesky, or even in Facebook groups. You can find more local writers in Facebook groups, which can be nice, but they don’t need to be local.
  2. Try not to compare your writing to anyone elses. No one’s writing is going to be like yours. Sometimes we might find another writer who has a similar style, but there is no one who will ever be exactly like you. So it’s important not to compare your writing to anyone’s. It’s way too easy to spiral if you go down that road…
